The Tangipahoa Professional Women’s Organization (TPW) recently awarded eight scholarships to deserving women in the community who will be pursuing their education in the fall. The total amount awarded this year was $10,000 which was divided among the winners.

The scholarships were given to women who are entering higher education for the first time, as well as to others who are achieving advanced degrees. All applicants were well qualified and deserving of the awards making the selection even more difficult to determine the final winners. This is the second round of awards given by TPW.

The scholarship winners were feted at a luncheon held in their honor at Trey Yuen Restaurant in Hammond on June 26 accompanied by a family member as an invited guest. TPW members were present to help celebrate and encourage the winners to become active in their professional organization in the future.

The Tangipahoa Professional Women’s Group has been established for over five years. It has as its mission the role of fostering communication and support of area business and professional women. The organization holds a major Women’s Conference annually and participates in additional fundraising and civic activities throughout the year, TPW hosts monthly luncheon meetings that currently rotate between Hammond and Ponchatoula.
